A Double Column operation is the most commonly used and most cost effective process in the application of equipment manufacturing and in the production of parts and assemblies. The reason for this is that the number of steps is drastically reduced in the process which results in a good reduction in costs.

Another benefit is that with this process there is no lead time required to manufacture parts, assemblies or equipment. All the parts can be produced in a reasonable amount of time. As a result of this the need for lead time will be significantly reduced. So in effect there is more time available for other functions such as communication, purchasing, etc.

Some of the disadvantages are that some assembly operations may be difficult to perform. Of course the big advantage here is that the work can be carried out in a much shorter time. However this can also reduce the quality of the end product. Although with the increased use of this process, the quality will improve but this will always depend on the nature of the assembly and the way in which it has been assembled.

The ultimate advantage of using a Double Column process is that it allows us to provide jobs to a range of industries which previously would have been very difficult to service. For example, we can now take on a range of industries including Aerospace and Telecommunications which would have otherwise had difficulty in satisfying demand in their markets.
